THE COLUMBIA CITY JAZZ DANCE COMPANY - COMPETITIONS

Wild Horses at Competition - Contemporary modern Dance

Competitions and conventions are an important part of a dancers training. Each dancer gains valuable stage experience, gets to see what other companies are doing, and gets to take classes with top instructors. We try to focus equally on public performances and competition to keep a proper balance of performance opportunities.

We attend 4 or 5 competitions each season, and nationals every other season. Everyone in Company gets to dance at competitions, nobody is left out. Any student wishing to compete a solo gets to compete. It's part of the educational process and helps each dancer learn to deal with the pressure of being judged, which will help them later in life when they're auditioning for college scholarships or positions as professional dancers.
